Why I'm Thankful For Being Sick

Happy Thanksgiving everyone, I hope you all have a great day. I wish you all many spoons and gentle hugs.

So since It’s Thanksgiving I thought I’d talk about what I’m Thankful for, and as weird as it sounds I’m kind of thankful for being sick. If I wasn’t sick I may have never met people that I consider my best friends. So while being sick does really suck, at the end of the day I have an amazing community of friends that always have my back and support me.

I realize this also might’ve happened if I was healthy and active on social media too. But never in my life have I felt okay around groups of healthy people, I had to try to along with them but it felt odd. I’ve been sick all my life, but it was more minor in my teenage years I could still mainly function, but I got progressively sicker after I graduated from high school. I was relatively isolated and couldn’t go out much due to being immune compromised.

I finally found a place where I felt like I belonged and no one was going to judge me. Being sick has also made me grow up a bit more and forced me to become a Doctor and Pharmacist without the degree. This knowledge does come in handy when my friends are struggling, and I’m happy that I can help them.

Often times things can be sketchy with my family too, so I tend to just adopt people and make my own family. I often feel like I don’t fit in with them so that’s why it’s important to me to stick by my friends and support them.

I found a quote in a book I’m reading that really touched me, made me remember even more that you don’t have to be blood to be family. It’s far more important that we stick together through the good and bad times no matter what.

“Home Isn’t where you’re from, it’s where you find light when all grows dark.” -Pierce Brown, Golden Son

My friends (and few family) are my light and I thank you all for loving and supporting me just the way I am. I’m so thankful for all of you, we may be thousands of miles away or in different countries but it’s the love that counts no matter where anyone is.
